Newspaper is a mirror of the world we live in. During the 17th century newspaper was first published in China. Through reading a newspaper, one can acquire all the important news at a glance. A newspaper can help a student in many ways. It can provide the extra knowledge about the world people and their customs and cultures. By reading newspaper, a student can easily acquire general knowledge which may help to build up his/her future life.
A newspaper sharpens intellect and makes one curious to know about the world outside. If a student reads newspapers regularly, he will certainly enrich his/her vocabulary and improve his/her style of writing. A student can utilize this knowledge in his or her practical life. A newspaper plays a vital role in the life of a man. To ignore newspapers is like keeping our eyes shut. It not only reflects what is happening but also tells us why it is happening. Sometimes, a newspaper gives biased and false news and comments and thus misleads the readers. One should not, however, be blindly influenced by these comments. It is important for a reader not to rely entirely on what he reads in newspapers. Every reader should judge for himself the value of what a newspaper tells him.

A Journey By Train

In the last autumn vacation I got sufficient time. So I made up my mind to make a journey by train from Dhaka to Khulna. I reached the station about half an hour before the train’s leaving. It was than a very busy time. Rickshaws, motor cars and other vehicles were coming to the station with passengers. After sometime hearing the whistle, the passengers stood before the ticket counter. I also stood in the line and bought a second class ticket.
At the right time the right train came and the guard whistled and waved his flag. Everybody tired to get into the train fast. After much difficulty I got into a second class compartment. The compartment was full to its capacity. The train left the station. I looked outside and found the beauty of nature. The train was running through green paddy fields. There were jute and sugarcane plants here and there. They were tossing their heads in the breeze. The compartment presented a good scene. Some of the passengers were talking on various matters. Some were reading newspapers and magazines. Hawkers came to us with their goods for sale. The train reached at the Khulna Station at 11 p.m. I got down. The journey gave me much pleasure. Indeed it was one of the most memorable days in my life.

The main functions of the satellite channels are to telecast different types of programmes though air. The channels entertain the people in many ways. The popular channels telecast may interesting programmee. They telecast musical performance, dance feats, drama and film-shows.
They also telecast international games and sports. Their style of presentation of news and other programmes attract the people. Satellite channels have a great effect on our society. But its good-side is limited. Although it has got some positive sides, some of its cannels, instead of being healthy media of entertainment and learning for our youths, are projecting immoral programs. Beside violence shown often deals with domestic discord and adultery. These programs have a bad influence on kids. I think the government should work out a well-planned policy to control the satellite channels.

Acid Throwing

Acid throwing is one of the most heinous crimes. In our country, nowadays we read about the incidents of acid throwing in the dailies. There are many causes of acid throwing. Firstly, refusal from love is responsible for it. Secondly revenge is also responsible for it. Thirdly, family enmity causes the problem. There are many bad impacts of acid throwing. Girls and women are the main victims of acid throwing. The acid victims suffer from an unbearable pain as the skin of the acid thrown on the part of the body gets burnt. She loses the interest in life. Government must take punitive action against the acid throwers. The involved criminal should be awarded with death sentence. Government, non-government and socio-cultural organizations should come forward to launch campaign against the crime.
Dangers Of Smoking

Smoking is a very bad and dangerous habit. It is so dangerous that it may cause cancer, heart-attack, high blood pressure, chronic pulmonary troubles and others serious diseases. It is found that one puff of cigarette smoke contains fifteen billion particles of matter inducing nicotine, methyl alcohol, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, arsenic, Benzedrine and several other acids. These are all really very fatal and injurious to our health. Nicotine constricts the size of blood-vessels which obstructs the normal flow of blood and oxygen in the body. It causes the heart beat faster. Benzedrine, arsenic and tobacco tar are cancer-causing agents in animals and human beings. Tobacco tar forms a brown sticky mass inside the lungs and it hinders the easy flow of blood. The presence of carbon monoxide in the tobacco tar drives out the oxygen from the blood and it is also dangerous. Besides, smoking can cause irritation in the eye, offend the rose and unsettle the mind. After all, the dangers of smoking are quite unlimited and all should avoid it to live a happy and peaceful life.
Water Pollution

Water, an important element of human environment, is essential for human and plant life. It is next to air. Water can be polluted in many ways. Firstly throwing waste and filth into water is responsible. secondly using chemical fertilizers and insecticides in the field is also responsible, thirdly throwing oil, food waste and human waste into the rivers by boats causes water pollution. Besides insanitary latrines on the banks of the rivers and canal and drains running into the rivers and canals cause water pollution. Polluted water is harmful for us. It causes many incurable diseases like. It kills the fishes of river. First of all, The government should come forward to solve the problem. we should make the people aware of the matter. Mills and factories should not throw the waste materials and unsold products into rivers and canals. Steamer, motor launches and sail boats should not throw oil, food waste and human waste into the rivers and canals. Unsanitary latrines in the countryside should not be built on the banks of the rivers and canals.
Arsenic Pollution

Arsenic problem is a very familiar matter in Bangladesh. Arsenic a chemical element is highly poisonous when found in an excessive level with tube well water. It causes arsenicosis, a disease leading to poisoning of the body and black spots. Poisoning by arsenic is a slow process.
Drinking arsenic contaminated water is the main reason for the problem. They begin to show symptoms and become unwell. Long-term poisoning might cause also death to the sufferers. However people can get rid of this disease by drinking arsenic free water. The tube wells should be tasted and painted green if safe and red if unsafe. Eating a healthy balanced diet, ideally containing fish and vegetables is also considered an initial treatment for this disease. People can collect rain water and also surface water from ponds and rivers which are free from arsenic.
